House System

Every student who attends our school is a member of a ‘house’. The houses are made up of students from year 7 – 11. There are three houses at our school:– the Eagles, the Lions and the Dolphins.

At the beginning of the academic year, the new first years are assigned to one of the houses and students get to nominate their house captains.
One of the features of the house system is the friendly competition between houses. Students quickly form an allegiance to their house and a sense of fun pervades all the school events.

The house system is also used to promote good work, behaviour and achievement through merit points and recognition in school assemblies. At the end of each academic year there are awards presented to students who have been successful in key areas both academically and non-academically. By recognising that students have different abilities, we try to give  them the confidence to contribute to the school in any area where they have talent.
Additionally at the end of each academic year, the merit points are totaled up for comparison between each House and a Winners Cup is presented to the winning house.

There are several events throughout the school year which require the houses to work together. This allows students to get to know each other and support each other through the house system. Some of our events are as follows:

  • House plays
  • Sports day
  • Fundraising
  • Debating competition

We also have a prefectorial system and class monitors. By giving our students the chance to work together and create a sense of responsibility, we believe we are preparing our students to contribute effectively to society.
