Statistics
Statistics is a way to answer questions using information. The information has to be observed or collected, ordered, represented and then analysed. In the current economic climate statistics plays an increasingly important role, impacting almost every aspect of our lives. A knowledge of statistics will enable students to understand end engage with the world around them. It was on this basis that the Maths department decided to introduce GCSE statistics in to Islamia’s curriculum.
Aims and Objectives:
To actively engage students in an accessible and relevant discipline.
To help students acquire knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques and concepts.
To encourages statistical problem solving.
To develop student understanding of the importance and limitations of statistics.
To support students in their progression through statistics and other related disciplines.
Key Stage 4:
GCSE statistics in taught in key stage 4, and has beenallocated an hour a week over five terms.
Chapter 1: Collecting Data.
Chapter 2: Representing and processing qualitative and discreet data.
Chapter 4: Summarising data: measure of central tendency and dispersion.
Chapter 5: Scatter diagrams and correlation.![]()
Chapter 6: Time series.
Chapter 7: Probability.
Chapter 8: Probability distribution and quality assurance.
Assessment:
This unit is assessed by examination as well as controlled assessment in a ratio of 75% to 25% respectively.
