School Clubs
Our endeavour at Islamia is always to help our girls to become well-rounded young Muslim women with self-confidence and integrity. Extra curricular clubs add an energy and vitality to a school that in turn has a positive effect on academic work and everyday school life.· With the support of Friends of Islamia, our parent body, we have been able to provide a number of enjoyable and fun activities this year, many of which are regularly run to allow girls the opportunity to attain to an advanced level
Drama
- Coaching by experienced Drama teacher
- Working towards a performance for the Cultural Evening
- Fun & dynamic workshops
- Run for the first and second term
- This term has 12 sessions starting in January 2012
Sugar Craft
- Lead by a propessional teacher
- Aming to give students an opportunity to do creative work in the ” Art of icing and decorating cakes"
- Colouring sugar pastes and icing sugar
- Modelling sugar paste and flower paste
- Making frills and flounces
- Designing cake boards
- Sugar moulding and chocolate cake decorations
- Lettering, cupcake designing and miniature Eid and celebration cakes
- Fun & dynamic workshops
- Run for the first and second term
- This term has 12 sessions starting Friday 6th January 2012
Sewing
- Learn sewing techniques by hand and machine
- Run by a member of staff
- Craft books and materials provided
- A creative & rewarding experience
- Throughout the year
- This term has 12 sessions in total starting from January 2012
Muslimah Club
• Encourages pupils to learn about their religion in a relaxed environment
• Allows the pupils to discuss key concepts in Islam
• Sessions include speakers, presentations, visits and interaction with local community
• Some of the recent sessions have included: dawah, love of Allah (swt) and the Prophet Muhammad (saw), visit to the Twins of Faith Conference at the Excel Centre and much more
• Runs weekly, during lunch time or after school in the Library, throughout the year on Monday
Boxing
- Encourage pupils to be physically active
- Help them gain confidence and be fit
- Learn about boxing stances and techniques
- Run by a qualified teacher
- Runs weekly on Thursdays, at lunch time, throughout the year.
Islamic Choir
- Encourage pupils to learn Nasheeds.
- Learn how to play interesting rhythmic patterns and make their own too!
- Learn to sing as a choir in harmony with each other.
- There is no obligation as part of the class to play musical instruments.
- Runs by a professional musician.
- Was Runnimg weekly on Thursdays, after school. There were 9 sessions last term started from Thursday 6th October 2011.
Self Defence
- Encourage pupils to be physically active
- It is a popular martial art
- It develops speed, strength, balance, flexibility and stamina
- Students will learn to defend themself
- Fun and rewarding experience
- Run by a qualified PE teacher
- Runs weekly on Mondays, after school, throughout the year.
Basketball
- Encourage pupils to be physically active
- Help them gain confidence and be fit
- Learn the rules of the game
- Enhance the ability to play as a member of a team
- Fun and rewarding experience
- Run by a qualified PE teacher
- Runs weekly on Thursdays, after school, throughout the year.
Rounders
- Encourage pupils to be physically active
- Help them gain confidence and be fit
- Enhances the ability to be a member of a team
- Fun and rewarding experience
- Run by a qualified PE teacher
- Runs twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays, after school, throughout the year.
Netball
- Encourage pupils to be physically active
- Help them gain confidence and be fit
- Enhances the ability to play netball at an advanced level
- Fun and rewarding experience
- Prepares them to form the Islamia Netball Team
- Coach them to compete with other schools locally
- Run by a qualified netball coach
- Runs weekly, after school, throughout the year.
Debating
- Encourage pupils to develop their research skills
- Help them gain confidence in public speaking
- Run by a member of staff
- Enhances the ability to express opinions eloquently & in a persuasive manner
- Rewarding, intellectually stimulating & challenging experience
- Runs weekly, during lunch time, throughout the year.
Amnesty Club
- Open to all
- Run by Islamia Amnesty Youth Group
- Dynamic workshops and regular meetings
- Participate and organise letter-writing
- Organise and Hold the school Human Rights Day
- Petitions and online actions
- Fundraise for our campaigns
- Engage in direct lobbying.
- Will be running every Wednesday at lunch time from 1:50 to 2:20 for the whole year of 2011-12
ICT Club
The ICT club operates after school on a weekly basis. It's aim is to
* Increase the time our students spend learning about the new technologies in the ICT field.
* Increase access to ICT especially for those with limited access to a computer or connection to the internet at home.
* Enable some students to develop and extend personal hobbies and interests
* Develop ICT capability; potentially raising self esteem, motivation and standards of achievement.
First Aid
- Run every year by Red Cross
- Organised by Friends of Islamia
- 2 hour workshop as Taster Session for Years 7 and 9
- Full certified Course for Year 11
- New dates to be announced for 2011/2012
